Target 300 Report Release - Jan
Target 300 has released a report titled - How Kevin Rudd managed to turn solar photo voltaics (PV) into Australia's most greenhouse gas intensive form of energy production. The report outlines how selling of Renewable Energy Certificates under the Solar Credits Scheme burdens owners of solar PV systems with high levels of emissions for relatively little gain. The report concludes the solar credit scheme needs to be replaced.

The below diagram from the report shows how under the Solar Credit Scheme, solar PV owners sell four volumes of non existent renewable electricity, in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), for each real volume of renewable electricity produced, accepting both the dollar value of the RECs and the emissions the RECs are used to offset.
The Department of Climate Change review of Solar Credits RECs Submissions Due 28th of January - Jan

Sliver cells still nowhere to be seen - Feb
Origin Energy's sliver cell is still going nowhere, five, NO SIX, NO SEVEN years (see 2003 Origin press release) after Origin took over the technology from the Australian National University's Sliver Cell Team.
Sliver cells could reduce the cost of solar PV's by using only 10% of the high grade silicon, which is the most significant cost element of a solar PV cell.
Origin customers should ring Origin and change their Greenpower account to alternative companies, telling them their failure on Sliver Cells is the reason you are choosing to close your account.
